Approach

Taking this time for yourself isn’t selfish, acknowledging vulnerability isn’t a sign of weakness; it is brave and honest and can lead to lasting change and a more fulfilled and meaningful existence.

Training, Qualifications and Experience

I worked for many years in the commercial sector in buying, marketing and business management, before training as a psychotherapist.

In addition to my private practice, I work with a local service offering affordable counselling to adults and young people, where I also support parents of children undertaking individual therapy.

My Masters training in psychotherapy and counselling at Regent's University, London was integrative. This means that I studied the leading schools in the field of psychotherapy, gaining an understanding of how each way of thinking relates to the individual.

This has enabled me to develop an integrated approach that I can tailor to you and your needs wherever you find yourself right now. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the fundamental component of the therapeutic process.  Each therapist works and relates differently, hence it is key that you find the right one for you.

Ongoing professional development is important to me in delivering the best care that I can to my clients; I have undertaken several client group and issue specific training courses, including mentalisation based training (MBT-A) for working with adolescents at the Anna Freud Centre. Also, extensive training in working with parents and relationships with young people.

How I work

I deliver psychotherapy and counselling to individuals, drawing on psychodynamic and existential practice.  Perhaps our past, particularly our early relationships, shapes us and often needs to be understood to enable us to move forward more freely; however, it does not define us - my understanding is that we have choice, and we are not fixed in our ways of being. Acknowledging psychological pain, being open and curious about its root, and also our individual and resourceful ways of dealing with it, can lead to balance and healing.

Whilst I enjoy working with all sorts of clients and the issues that they bring, I have a particular interest in working with periods of transition and change, whether that be related to life stage, relationships, work or specific events. I also work to support parents as individuals or as couples who are experiencing challenges in, or want to explore further, their family relationships.

I work with clients both long and short term; the number of sessions will depend on you and your needs and what you are comfortable with. Generally, I work face to face from practice rooms in Henley-on-Thames; I also offer online counselling, I have undertaken additional training to support this.
